چکیده

In this paper we investigate how Ripple Down Rules (RDR) knowledge-based systems (KBS) can be reorganized and intermediate concepts discovered. The experiment is based on a real-world multiple-classification RDR knowledge base (KB) with 3710 rules and 2211 cornerstone cases used for interpreting lipid results in chemical pathology. RDR knowledge acquisition can start with a minimal ontology and adding a rule is simple and rapid. On the other hand there is the drawback of possible repetition, redundancy and lack of intermediate concepts. This paper demonstrates how repetition and redundancy can be elimitated by reorganising RDR and how intermediate concepts can be discovered.

Multi-level Rule Discovery from Knowledge Bases

Data is not the only resource that can lead to knowledge discovery. Knowledge itself in the form of an expert system or output from data mining can be further manipulated to produce multi-level knowledge. This can be used to suggest more interesting concepts and improve understanding and querying of the original data and/or knowledge. Knowledge has different properties to data, the most obvious...

Experience with Ripple - Down Rules q

Ripple-Down Rules (RDR) is an approach to building knowledge-based systems (KBS) incrementally, while the KBS is in routine use. Domain experts build rules as a minor extension to their normal duties, and are able to keep refining rules as KBS requirements evolve. Commercial RDR systems are now used routinely in some Chemical Pathology laboratories to provide interpretative comments to assist c...

Finding Conceptual Models to Assist Validation

Many approaches to knowledge based systems (KBS) development attempt to build complete systems that are mostly considered final before they are put into production. Verification and Validation (V&V) is seen as an activity performed before the system is installed and little consideration is given to incremental KA, maintenance or validation of the system after installation. We take a situated vi...

Revisiting Sisyphus I - An Incremental Approach to Resource Allocation using Ripple Down Rules

This paper offers a ripple-down rules (RDR) solution to the SISYPHUS-I room allocation task in response to a recent call for papers to the conceptual graph community to solve this problem. RDR have not previously been applied to the problem of resource allocation and we were interested in seeing whether the problem solving method (PSM) we have used for classification and configuration was also ...

NRDR for the Acquisition of Search Knowledge

The contribution of this paper is threefold: It substantially extends Ripple Down Rules, a proven eeective method for building large knowledge bases without a knowledge engineer. Furthermore, we propose to develop highly eeective heuristics searchers for combinatorial problems by a knowledge acquisition approach to acquire human search knowledge. Finally, our initial experimental results sugges...
